LOG OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS
The following is a year to date summary of the MABA, Inc. List of Accomplishments since 1999.
1.Stopped Commercial Establishments On Magnolia Avenue from putting their garbage out for pick-up on Magnolia Avenue .
2. Started a Neighborhood Watch Team in cooperation with Jersey City 's North District Police Department.
3. MABA, Inc. was responsible for the planting of five new trees in front of Magnolia Terrace Condominiums located at 282, and 278 Magnolia Avenue .
4. MABA, Inc. convinced the Commercial Business Establishments that line our block to install lighting at the rear of their buildings to help in the prevention of vandalism and crime.
5. MABA, Inc. along with initiatives from Ward C, Councilman, Mr. Steve Lipski was responsible for resurfacing Magnolia Avenue 's entire street.
6. MABA, Inc. was responsible for getting the City of Jersey City to install rumple strips and 25 Mile Per Hour Traffic Warning Signs for resident and pedestrian safety.
7. MABA, Inc. along with initiatives from then Jersey City 's Department of Public Works Director , Mrs. Betty Outlaw convinced her to install dog waste signs and pedestrian crossing signs on Magnolia Avenue and Tonnelle Avenue .
8. MABA, Inc. with the cooperation of Jersey City 's Municipal Utilities Authority resolve a sewer back-up problem and got the JCMUA to install new sewer infrastructure on the north and south sides of Magnolia Avenue .
9. MABA, Inc. was responsible for urging the city back in 2002 to begin ground breaking activity for new residential and commercial properties in Journal Square .
10. The MABA, Inc. met with the late Senator, and Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham during 2001, 2002, and 2003 to focus on a proposed plan of revitalization of Gloria Esposito Way and Magnolia Avenue.The MABA, Inc. is now working on plans in conjuction with an Architectural team to improve the infrastucture and street-scape on Magnolia Avenue.This vision is one MABA, Inc. hopes to realize in the not to distant future.
11. MABA, Inc. formed a cooperative arrangement with Mr. Don Smartt, District Administrator of the Journal Square Restoration Corporation with focus on quality of life initiatives such as clean streets and a healthier enviroment.
12. MABA, Inc. convinced the commercial establishments and Magnolia Terrace to place anti-graffiti signs on their property. A strategy that has worked in the prevention graffiti.
13. MABA, Inc. paid labor costs, purchased new lighting fixtures, paint and other related material to beautify and light the Catholic Community Services building located at 285 Magnolia Avenue . This building presented problems for our residents resulting in vandalism and broken windshields to their cars.
14. MABA, Inc. continues dialogue with the Jersey City Restoration Authority, J.C. Lowe's Theater, the Special Improvement District, Jersey City Policy-Makers, and Jersey City 's North District Police Department in a continuing effort to improve the quatility of life for the people who live and work in Journal Square .
15. MABA, Inc. worked with the Jersey City Parking Authority and then Director, Mr. Jimmy King in illuminating a concern for commercial vehicles parking their vehicle horizontally and on the sidewalk during deliveries. This issue posed serious safety concerns for our residents and pedestrians because they had to walk in the street. This isuue was resolved with the cooperation of Ms. Jakie Baljko, Jersey City North District Police Department, Captain Robert Kilduff of the North District Police Department along with the efforts of Jersey City Parking Authority.
16. MABA, Inc. in cooperation with the Jersey City Incinerator Authority host an Annual Spring & Fall Clean-Up to help resident home-owners discard unwanted debris that tends to build up over the years in an effort to reduce storing these items in their back yards causing health concerns.
17. MABA, Inc. created a web-site still under construction that would provide links to other critical sites in Journal Square collaborating their efforts on a united front to improve our community. This web-site is intended to provide access to our members and other vistors to keep them informed about issues related to their changing enviroment.
18. Installation of (4) Pedestrian Litter Baskets to help control litter placed along Magnolia Avenue during the summer months of 2005.
19. MABA, Inc. Streetscape Design Concept provided by MKW + Associates, LLC, landscape Architectural Design Professional Corporation submitted October 20, 2005 for consideration by the current political administration, Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy and staff as well as Mr. Eugene Neslon, JCED/UEZ, Chief Executive Officer and staff for financial support.
20. During our 2006 Spring/Summer Clean-Up the Magnolia Avenue Block Association,
Inc. members Installed a Dog Depot/ Doggy Pot Polyurethane Pet Station on Magnolia Avenue to help facilitate residents to pick up after their dogs.
